Malaysia Boleh! Mr. Chong Keat Aun took the honours in the Best New Director category at the 57th Golden Horse Awards in Taipei, on 21 Nov 2020 for his feature film “The Story of Southern Islet”. Mr. Chong Keat Aun wowed crowds with his impeccable sartorial flair. The Malaysian looked like James Bond 007, rocking the red carpet in an eye-catching royal blue three-pieced tuxedo and bow-tie from Bon Zainal.

When I was writing the script, I was told by many people who were not willing to finance the film, including in Malaysia, that no one will understand it. I said someday somebody will understand it. The result is the Golden Horse Awards understands it.

A ‘black tie’ dress code has the ability to strike fear in even the most sartorially accomplished. Thanks to the increasingly rare nature of formal events and the James Bond mystique that surrounds it, the humble tux has become something of a fashion anomaly, appearing once a year at most. Daunting as it may be though, it’s also an opportunity for the average man to raise the bar when it comes to the style stakes. And with a few easy pointers, a sleek tuxedo from Bon Zainal can be the ultimate tool in your sartorial arsenal.

In a video excerpt of his award acceptance speech that was posted on the Golden Horse Awards’ Facebook page, Chong had said: “When I was writing the script, I was told by many people who were not willing to finance the film, including in Malaysia, that no one will understand it. I said someday somebody will understand it. The result is the Golden Horse Awards understands it.”

The Golden Horse Awards being established in 1962, it became the most significant ceremony within the Chinese language film industry. The awards have given recognition to numerous excellent filmmakers and artists, and inspired the film industry to breakthrough the limitation.
