There’s something to be said about a fighter who keeps it clean. Just take Johan ‘Jojo’ Ghazali, for instance.

Seven bouts. Six wins. Five knockouts.

It wouldn’t be exaggerating to say that Jojo could probably knock you out with one hand behind his back — his latest win from September saw the Perak native achieve a knockout win with a previously broken hand! With his recent achievements in Muay Thai, Jojo’s been doing the country proud, making a name for himself in the bargain.

Despite his young age, Jojo is making a lasting impact on Malaysia’s sports scene, driven by discipline and a demanding training regimen. His journey from local talent to internationally recognised fighter has inspired young athletes across Malaysia, as he steps into the role of a mentor with ease and encourages the next generation to pursue their dreams. Yet, there’s more to Jojo than just his skills in the ring.

As Jojo’s star rises, he’s carving out a niche for himself in the world of fashion and lifestyle, and is well-known for his sleek, personal style — and his grooming routine has formed a key part of curating it. Recognising this, Nateskin, a leading brand in self-grooming solutions, reached out to Jojo, aligning their brand with a young athlete famous for his discipline, and sense of style, in and out of the ring.

With Jojo as their ambassador, Nateskin is stepping beyond the typical athlete-brand partnerships, as their grooming products form an essential part of Jojo’s life, both inside and outside the ring. With this in mind, GC gets up close & personal to speak with Jojo Ghazali, Nateskin’s Brand Ambassador, as Jojo shares what drives him, the challenges he's faced, and how he's transforming his dreams into reality.

GC: Can you tell us about your journey in Muay Thai—what initially sparked your interest in the sport, and what kept you motivated to pursue it professionally?

Jojo: I started training in Muay Thai at age 10. I was heavily influenced by my parents' love for the sport since they both used to fight, but they never forced me into it. At first, I tried it just for fun, as I wasn't a very active kid back then. But from my first fight, I fell in love and still love it to this day. I stay motivated by many things: family, fame, glory, money—but most importantly, my supporters. When I'm on the verge of giving up, the people who believe in me are what push me beyond.

Reflecting on your career so far, what were the pivotal moments that shaped you as an athlete? How did joining ONE Championship impact you and your family?

Jojo: My first fight in ONE Championship was probably the most pivotal moment in my career. It impacted my life in both positive and challenging ways. Now, I'm known nationwide as JoJo—the famous young Muay Thai fighter—but to my family, I'm still just JoJo. My relationship with them hasn't changed, but I learned early on that not everyone wants to see you succeed, so I keep my circle tight and find it difficult to welcome new people.

Rising through the ranks at such a young age is no small feat. What personal sacrifices and commitments were necessary to achieve this?

Jojo: Honestly, I’ve sacrificed my entire childhood, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. This has always been my dream, and alhamdulillah, I'm living it every day. Sacrifices are part of it—missing out on events, parties, even important family gatherings. I can’t remember the last time I celebrated my birthday outside the gym. I like it this way, but I'd be lying if I said these sacrifices were easy.

Could you walk us through a typical training day leading up to a fight? What does it take physically and mentally to stay in peak shape?

Jojo: I usually train about 6-7 hours a day, sometimes 8. Every fight camp is demanding, from dealing with injuries to missing time with friends and family. Staying focused is tough, especially with temptations all around nowadays. Luckily, my siblings train alongside me most of the time, which eases the burden a bit.

With such a demanding career, how do you manage to balance your professional life with personal time, hobbies, and other interests?

Jojo: I don’t. My life is Muay Thai; everything I do, including my hobbies, is somehow related to becoming a better fighter. Even the people I surround myself with—if I feel like they’re holding me back, I’ll cut them off.

Wow, that's bold. As someone in the public eye, how do you maintain a positive mindset and manage stress, especially at a young age?

Jojo: My faith has helped me a lot with this. I just let go and let God do the work. Whatever happens, even if it doesn't go my way, it was God's plan.

What are your primary goals moving forward in Muay Thai, and are there any particular competitions you’re targeting?

Jojo: My number one goal right now is to become the ONE Championship champion.

What inspired you to partner with Nateskin, and how does this collaboration align with your values?

Jojo: I partnered with Nateskin because confidence is at the heart of what they do, and that’s something I really believe in. In the ring, confidence is everything—you can’t step in there feeling uncertain. Nateskin’s mission to build men’s confidence through grooming aligns perfectly with my journey as an athlete. On top of that, Nateskin is a brand that men in this region look up to, and I’m honored to be a role model for many. We both aim to inspire people to be their best. Their focus on quality resonates with me because I’m also working to be the best version of myself every day.

How important is grooming and self-care in your daily life, both as an athlete and as an individual?

Jojo: Grooming and self-care are just part of staying ready and sharp. Whether I’m getting into the ring or just going about my day, looking after myself is essential. Taking care of the small things, like grooming, sets the tone for my mindset and training.

How do Nateskin’s products fit into your daily grooming routine? Do they play a role in helping you feel confident, especially before stepping into the ring?

Jojo: Nateskin’s products are definitely part of my daily routine now. The Face Shaver is a lifesaver—it’s super quick, which is great for my morning routine on intense training days. The Bamboo Boxers are the most comfortable I’ve worn; they’re breathable, which is perfect for long training hours and keeps me focused all day. Having these essentials really makes a difference in how I start my day.

Nateskin’s products are tailored for athletes with busy lifestyles. How do you find these products cater to your on-the-go needs?

Jojo: Nateskin’s products make life easier for an athlete on the move. I can grab the Face Shaver without needing extras like shaving foam, which saves time when I’m bouncing between training and travel. The Bush Trimmer is designed to keep everything smooth and safe without nicks or cuts, so there's no pain distracting me when I’m training. They’re solid, quality tools that get the job done.

How would you describe your personal style, and do you see your grooming choices as part of your overall approach to achieving success in sports and life?

Jojo: To me, personal style is more about mindset than appearance. It’s a ‘winner mentality’—being prepared, disciplined, and focused on the goal, no matter what it takes. I’ve sacrificed a lot to be where I am, like missing birthdays and spending every day training instead of hanging out with friends. I don’t regret it because it’s my dream to be the best. Grooming is part of my routine that helps me feel ready and focused. It’s not just about looking good but about starting each day with a clear mind and purpose.

You’re part of a new generation that’s redefining what it means to be an athlete. How do you feel about the role of style, presentation, and grooming in shaping your public persona?

Jojo: Being an athlete today isn’t just about skill; it’s about mindset, discipline, and presentation. My partnership with Nateskin helps me stay confident and prepared, like how I see legends like Cristiano Ronaldo—the GOAT—always showing up at his best. Grooming and self-care demonstrate my commitment to being the best version of myself, and I want to inspire others to take pride in that too. True strength is about the work we put in and how we carry ourselves, showing that confidence begins with feeling ready for anything.

Thank you Johan for the wonderful insights. We wish you Godspeed in your future undertakings.

Jojo: You are most welcome.
