September returns with plenty of classy affairrs. Panggung Sari to a music legend making his directorial debut, sends a paddock's worth of air- and water-cooled Porsches to the edge of the city, and stages a swordfish myth, an Adele songbook, a Bangkok-inspired lunch table, and a Homeric shipwreck across four very different rooms. Here is where discernment should take you this month.

1. Samantha Diana: Sings Adele
On 2 September at 8:30pm, BoboKL's intimate jazz-club stage turns over an evening to Adele's songbook, from Rolling in the Deep to Someone Like You, performed with the powerhouse vocals the material demands. The room seats close, the show runs two hours with a 15-minute intermission, and doors open an hour before curtain. For the gentleman who prefers his heartbreak sung live and up close rather than through a pair of headphones, BoboKL remains the city's most honest room for exactly this kind of evening.

2. Teater Muzikal Mansur & Liu
From 10 to 20 September, Panggung Sari at Istana Budaya hosts the directorial debut of Dato' M. Nasir — four decades into a career as singer, composer and lyricist, and his first time behind a musical theatre production. He directs and composes the entire score himself — more than 30 original songs blending traditional Malay music with contemporary orchestral touches. The production, adapted from the Sulalatus Salatin, imagines the diplomatic meeting between Sultan Mansur Shah of Melaka and a Ming-dynasty princess, with Aliff Aziz and Melinda Dadew leading a cast that also includes Amerul Affendi, Sherry Alhadad, Hazama and Taqim Zaki. For the gentleman who grew up on M. Nasir's catalogue, this is the closest he'll come to watching that catalogue built anew, on the national stage he helped define.

3. LUFTWASSER '26: Icona Heritage
On Saturday, 5 September, from noon to just past nine at night, the LYL International Karting Circuit gives itself over to Malaysia's largest Porsche community gathering. This year's theme, Icona Heritage, traces the marque's air-cooled and water-cooled lineage through curated displays of the cars that defined it. The last edition drew over 500 cars and 4,000 attendees, and this year adds an early-access VIP pass with its own lanyard, merchandise and coffee vouchers, plus a Porsche-only parking add-on for owners arriving in their own. Passes are sold exclusively through the TRBLMKRS app. For the gentleman whose idea of a Saturday well spent involves flat-sixes rather than fine dining, September has only one appointment worth keeping.

4. TODAK◉GUNDIK
From 3 to 6 September, Pentas 2 at klpac stages a contemporary reimagining of the swordfish-attack legend from the Malay Annals, adapted by Kee Thuan Chye and directed by Loh Kok Man. Puppetry, masks, live music and animation combine with the folk song Ulek Mayang to retell a story of jealousy, obsession and war — performed in Bahasa Malaysia with English and Chinese surtitles across a 120-minute run with intermission. For the gentleman who takes his mythology seriously but likes it staged with real theatrical ambition, this is Melaka's history told through a language of puppets and drums rather than textbooks.

6. Storytelling ODYSSEY: The Adventure
On 26 and 27 September, the Black Box at DPAC in Empire Damansara hosts KL Shakespeare Players' retelling of Homer's epic, told by three actors using everyday objects, movement, music and a measure of audience participation as Odysseus fights his way home from Troy. The show is pitched at ages 5 to 90 is a rare piece that gives children an adventure and gives their parents a genuine question about what a homecoming costs. This is not the month's most refined outing, and it does not aim to be. It is, however, precisely the sort of Saturday afternoon the GC reader with young children will want on the calendar.
