November, or as many now affectionately call it, Movember, is more than just a month; it’s a movement. A global initiative to raise awareness about men’s health issues, Movember encourages men to grow their moustaches and beards as a visual cue for advocacy. This year, I decided to fully embrace the spirit—letting my moustache grow alongside my usual full beard. By the end of the month, however, my facial hair had transformed into a rugged, untamed statement piece that needed a touch of refinement. For this task, I turned to none other than Truefitt & Hill, a brand renowned as the world’s oldest barbershop, at their branch nestled amidst the modern elegance of The Exchange TRX.

A Warm Welcome to Tradition

Walking into Truefitt & Hill is akin to stepping into a sanctuary of gentlemanly refinement. The polished interiors, the quiet hum of professionalism, and the warm welcome from the receptionist immediately set the tone for what was to come. It’s the kind of greeting that reflects the brand’s heritage—a legacy of "Grooming Men for Greatness Since 1805." I opted for their facial hair grooming and hair wash service, excited to see how they would tackle my Movember mane.

Nash, my barber for the session, began with a consultation that immediately impressed me. Rather than diving in straight away, he took the time to discuss his plan for trimming and styling my beard. Notably, he observed that my beard growth was asymmetrical, with one side slightly fuller than the other. “We’ll balance it out,” he assured me—a simple yet thoughtful detail that spoke volumes about his expertise.

Using precision tools like the WAHL Magic Clip and WAHL Detailer, the trimming began. The process was immensely satisfying—a symphony of gentle clipping and meticulous sculpting. With careful attention, Nash ensured that my beard not only looked neater but also complemented the natural contours of my face.

With the trimming complete, I moved on to the detailing stage, which involved shaving. This wasn’t just any shave—it was an experience. It began with the application of a hot towel, the warmth and steam softening my skin and beard, setting the stage for a luxurious process. Once again, their attention to detail shone through as Nash pointed out my hair’s growth patterns and offered thoughtful advice for managing them during future haircuts.
