Earlier this year, I was introduced to Netflix's "The Gentlemen", and like many others, I quickly became immersed in its compelling narrative. It wasn’t long before I binged the entire series, fascinated by Guy Ritchie’s portrayal of Eddie Horniman, The Duke of Halstead. The Duke embodies not only the archetypal gentleman—refined speech, impeccably tailored suits, a commanding presence, and sharp demeanor—but also a figure of moral complexity. While navigating the shadowy underworld, his character maintains a strict personal code of honor, blending old-world elegance with modern ruthlessness. This duality is at the heart of "The Gentlemen", and with this in mind, I knew I was in for an intriguing evening when I received the invitation to Truefitt & Hill and Netflix Launch Event for "The Gentlemen" limited-edition product range.

It’s an exciting day today as we launch our latest collection in collaboration with Netflix "The Gentlemen".

The event was held at The Smoke House, The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Truefitt & Hill, in collaboration with Netflix, celebrated the TV adaptation of "The Gentlemen" with a luxurious collection of British grooming products. The series, adapted from Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film, promises viewers a captivating look into a world where aristocracy and criminal enterprise collide. The cast boasts stars like Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Vinnie Jones, and Ray Winstone.

Truefitt & Hill’s partnership with Netflix brings this aristocratic world to life through a limited-edition product range, created with the same attention to detail that has graced its storied history. As the world’s oldest barbershop, founded in 1805, Truefitt & Hill has long served royalty, aristocrats, and the stylish rogues who have walked through its doors—from the British monarchy to Hollywood stars.

The venue could not have been more fitting. Housed in the original 1932 building of The Majestic Hotel, a gazetted historical landmark by the Malaysian government, The Smoke House evokes the opulence of 1930s British Malaya. Its hybrid neo-classical and art deco architecture offered the perfect setting for the evening's soiree, and as I entered, I couldn’t think of any other place that could carry the same atmosphere. The elegance of the bygone era was steeped in its plush surroundings and dim, atmospheric lighting, making it feel as though we had stepped back in time—a fitting tribute to the timeless sophistication that Truefitt & Hill represents. The venue’s brimming class was further elevated by the presence of distinguished guests. Among them were YHM Tengku Dato' Indera Aidy Ahmad Shah, Pahang royalty, and the ever-suave actor Tony Eusoff, both epitomizing grace and style.

As the evening unfolded, we were introduced to the star of the show: "The Gentlemen" limited-edition product range. The collection features a Cologne, Aftershave Balm, Shaving Cream Bowl, and Pre-shave Oil, all crafted with the same signature sandalwood scent to ensure a cohesive grooming experience from start to finish. This subtle continuity allows every product to complement the others without clashing—a testament to Truefitt & Hill’s commitment to elegance and refinement.

The highlight for me was, of course, "The Gentlemen" cologne. Elegantly packaged with regal embellishments, the cologne exuded confidence. With top notes of lemon and bergamot, balanced by a lavender core and a base of sandalwood, musk, and amber, it captured the room with a single spray. A hint of melon added a surprising freshness to this already commanding fragrance. Presented in a beautifully etched traditional bottle, and the scent itself declared, “I’m in charge, I have the room, I am The Gentleman.”

While engaging in conversation with Peter Nastos, General Manager for Australasia and Southeast Asia, I learned that the second season of Netflix Series "The Gentlemen" is already in the works, with a scene planned to be shot in Truefitt & Hill’s original St. James location in London. This is the kind of news that makes one eagerly anticipate the next installment of the show. Before leaving, I also had the honor of speaking with Fouad Ghandour, the brand's Managing Director, who shared that "The Gentlemen" cologne is a limited edition, with only 30 pieces available in Malaysia—perfect for collectors.

Truefitt & Hill’s illustrious history dates back over two centuries, with its original boutique still standing at 71 St. James Street in London. The brand holds a Royal Warrant from H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh, a testament to its reputation for excellence in male grooming. Beyond haircuts and shaves, their services include manicures, pedicures, and complimentary shoe-shining—ensuring that any gentleman who steps into their establishment leaves perfectly polished. In Malaysia, Truefitt & Hill has established itself at several prestigious locations, including Bangsar Shopping Centre, The RUMA Hotel, Suria KLCC, and Seibu at The Exchange TRX.

As the evening came to a close, I couldn’t help but feel that Truefitt & Hill, like Netflix Series "The Gentlemen", masterfully weaves together the old and the new. Both are grounded in tradition yet appeal to the modern man—one who embraces style, sophistication, and a touch of boldness, reminding us that being a gentleman is not just about how you present yourself; it’s about the character you carry within.
