ZHAN Art | Space is thrilled to showcase Sanker Ganesh’s solo exhibition – Body Language, with bold and vivid brushstrokes of artworks on display; capturing the artist’s raw emotions and experiences as he navigates the complexities of a contemporary society. The exhibition, consisting of 14 unique artworks addresses various societal expectations and cultural norms, particularly within the Malaysian community which impacts the perception of Self and how such expectations affect the physical body.

The exhibition aims to acknowledge and convey a sense of physical and emotional vulnerability surrounding individuals and how society can be more inclusive and compassionate with one another. Through his use of colour, texture and form, Sanker ensures that the human figures are centred and prioritised, ensuring viewers are focused towards the body.

Banker and long-time art collector Bingley Sim shares that Body Language confronts viewers with many profound and often intimidating questions such as equality and feminism. He further comments that Sanker’s “grotesque but yet beautiful figures reaffirmed Sanker’s expressive characteristics that come out from his heart, mind and soul”.

Body Language is scheduled from now till 23 July 2023, and viewers can look forward to the artworks ranging from RM1,200 to RM13,650.

In recent years, there have been some ruffling of feathers, particularly on the discrimination and harsh criticism supposedly faced by some artists. We however, stand firm to support any artists regardless of race and ethnicity, and are excited to support Sanker Ganesh in putting together this exhibition. Body Language is a strong curation of artworks showcasing the human figures in the most raw and authentic expression state, while reflecting a deep sense of societal issues embedded into the works.
