As part of UOB Malaysia’s initiative to bring art closer to the community, the Bank recently unveiled a vibrant light rail transit (LRT) wrap featuring an artwork by a winner of 2022 UOB Painting of the Year (Malaysia) (POY (Malaysia)). From now until June 2023, commuters on Rapid KL’s Kelana Jaya LRT line will be visually treated to the creative expression of Mr Wooi Ki Xiong’s Mandi Bunga (or Flower Bath).
As patron of the arts, UOB Malaysia believes in doing right by the community and supporting home-grown talents in their creative pursuits. The LRT wrap is one of the Bank’s efforts to showcase local artworks to a wider audience to increase art appreciation among Malaysians.
Mr Wooi was named the Most Promising Artist of the Year in the Emerging Artist Category at the 2022 UOB POY (Malaysia) competition. His artwork Mandi Bunga, received the highest votes and was selected to be adapted as a wrap on the LRT through a nationwide Facebook contest held by the Bank.
Mandi Bunga is inspired by a flower bath cleansing ritual practised across Southeast Asian countries and embodies the artist’s wish for the nation to prosper once again, after enduring a turbulent time during the pandemic.
