The rise of women: A threat to men's status?

A reader explores the increasing dominance of women in society, their impact on men's careers and relationships, and the shifting dynamics between genders. A personal reflection on the challenges men face in today's world.

Question from Mr. J:

Greetings Gents,

First and foremost, well done on the site as well as your noble course to educate men on men's welfare. Your Ask the Gentlemen section certainly has many interesting stories and challenges faced by our fellow comrades. I can see most of the issues fall a lot on managing women of today which is the reason for my email today to your publication.

Would you agree with me that women are slowly becoming a dominant and powerful species as we move into the future? Have you ever heard of the #MeToo movement? It is a movement that seems powerful where a bunch of women would come up to the media and claim that they had been sexually harassed by a man and without any shred of evidence to backup their claims, this man would be subjected to severe punishments like termination of employment, rejection by society - in a nutshell he would be seen as a sick and deranged individual. All without any proof. Armie Hammer, Brett Ratner, Bryan Singer, Kevin Costner are examples of men victimized by such baseless accusations and had to endure a career downfall because a bunch of women went up to the media and spoke about their sexual encounters with them. They would even report you as a harasser if you look at their legs.

Armie Hammer whom I always admired, a highly talented actor, has become jobless and penniless and had to migrate to Cayman Islands over his sexual allegation: Link- https://www.businessinsider.com/armie-hammers-cant-afford-gas-career-sexual-assault-cannibalism-2024-8

Brett Ratner who was the director for all Rush Hour films was planning for another Rush Hour sequel but all plans were halted because main actors Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker want Brett Ratner back to direct but the producers are refusing their request due to Ratner's sexual allegation. Link : https://fandomwire.com/no-studio-reportedly-wants-jackie-chans-rush-hour-4-due-to-a-controversial-marvel-director-with-several-sexual-misconduct-allegations/

Kevin Costner's 2024 western movie was an outright flop because people boycotted him due to his 2004 sexual allegation. Link : https://www.cbsnews.com/news/costner-accused-of-performing-sex-act/

Bill Cosby's sexual allegation was overturned by the court as innocent but he is currently unemployed and no company wants to hire Cosby despite the court's decision that he was innocent. Link : https://time.com/6078213/cosby-freed-criminal-justice/

And many others. Men are wrongfully paying for the crimes that they were just accused of without any proof or any decision by the Court.

And now we have Donald Trump who is running for office for a 2nd term. A man who was surging in the polls when he was fighting against Joe Biden. Once Biden announced he was quitting the Presidential race, in came Kamala Harris and Trump's polls have significantly dropped because women are going all out to vote for her. It's not about her policies, she has never done any press conference ever since she announced her candidacy to be President but she is surging ahead in the polls. At this pace, she might be able to defeat Trump without much effort because the women are supporting her. CNN reporting it here Link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW_rYBeyBFk

We even have gender neutral synonyms which are being enforced in certain countries and slowly it would be used in many parts of the world. Words like "manpower", "mankind", "man-made", "manhole" will be considered as taboo and would be revised to a neutral term. Many recent Hollywood films seem to give you the impression that "all men are trash" due to how they regard men as truly assholes. Most recent one is Channing Tatum's Don't Blink Twice which was directed by his own fiancee! The movie shows how weak we men are. Other male-hating movies are Promising Young Woman (2021), Watcher (2022), Men (2022).

Then I stumbled upon your section on Ask the Gentlemen and found out that most of the feedback you receive from men are about women and their over ambitious demands and that gave me an eye opener on the subject about women.

The economist in 2024 did a study and found out that the current generation of young man and woman are drifting apart with opposite views in politics, families, finances, interests and more that these generations prefer being single Link - https://www.economist.com/international/2024/03/13/why-the-growing-gulf-between-young-men-and-women

The whole connection here seems to point out that women are truly a dominant species. They are able to jeopardize a man's career by accusing him of being a sexual predator, They are able to change words that are seen as gender bias, they can over-demand things from a man. Their thoughts no longer align with what we think (most of the time we end up in an argument). Something that we should ponder. A food for thought.

My personal experience, Chinese girls are demanding so I have no desire to pursue any relationship. I have had a few in the past and it wasn't a pleasing one. Lost a lot of money with them which caused me to stop pursuing something I love doing like travelling. Sacrificing something you love over a girl requires a lot of patience and at times can be very stressful so I do not have that in me. I just can't. Now, I am more focused on what I love to do, which is solo travelling every quarter of the year. It's very therapeutic. I do hope in the future you would feature some travel articles for solo travelers like me.

Answer by The Gentleman:

Hola Mr. J,

Thank you for your thoughtful email and for engaging with the content on Gentlemanscodes.com. We're glad to hear that the Ask the Gentlemen section has provided some insights and sparked important discussions.

I appreciate your concerns about the shifting dynamics between men and women in today's society. However, I would like to offer a different perspective on the matter. Rather than viewing the rise of women as a threat, it might be more constructive to see it as an opportunity for men to elevate themselves and strive to become the best versions of who they can be. In another word, by becoming more than just a man. How do we start doing this? We start at home first. We observed our first childhood hero, our father. We emulate the best of him. Then, if we daring enough, we may find other role-model to emulate, like Henry Golding for charming, or Prince Mateen for masculinity. But hey, this journey is not going to be easy.

Men have been protectors, providers, and leaders—not just of their families but of society at large. This honorable role is not diminished by the advancement of women; instead, it challenges us to adapt and grow. In a world where women are gaining more prominence, or like what you said - dominant, men must respond by how a hero respond when confronting with the obstacles and challenges. For example, what is the relevant skillset to thrive in modern world today? How does attention economy affecting society at large, and how best do I capitalize this as a business owner, employee or a content creator? By doing so, not only do we contribute to the betterment of society by becoming a successful man, but we also ensure that the women around us are supported and protected, just as they have been in the past thousand years of mankind.

Having said that, It’s essential to remember that power dynamics are not a zero-sum game. The empowerment of women does not necessitate the disempowerment of men. Instead, it calls for a rebalancing where both men and women can thrive, each bringing their unique strengths to the table. This mutual respect and collaboration are what will ultimately lead to a more harmonious society.

Your relationship experiences and the frustrations you've faced are valid, and it's important to acknowledge them. However, rather than seeing these challenges as evidence of a larger problem with women as a whole, perhaps it's worth considering how we, as men, can adapt to the evolving landscape. By focusing on self-improvement, personal growth, and leisure (your favorites hobby it seems), we can navigate these changes with grace and continue to uphold the values of gentlemanly class.

We appreciate your suggestion about featuring travel articles for solo travelers, and it’s certainly something we’ll consider for future content.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and for being a part of our community. Together, we can continue to explore these complex issues and support one another in the journey of becoming a man of true class.

Best regards,

The Gentleman
